We all dislike the cost of insurance but when you need insurance, you really need it.

I was a fit, healthy 54 year old when the unthinkable happened… I had a stroke.  Once home from hospital my wife rang Jess to see if our Trauma Insurance covered strokes.  Jess came to see us the next day and completed all the necessary forms for us, then rang the day after to advise that the claim had been accepted.  Within 18 days of having the stroke the insurance monies were paid out.

In June this year I had a brain aneurism. This has, and still is, a very difficult thing to cope with mentally, physically, emotionally and financially.
My sister contacted Rohan (Welsh and Associates) to inform him of my condition and to discuss where to from here in relation to my policies. Rohan first needed to confirm that I had given permission for him to talk to her. During this confirmation (two days after my aneurism), I was not fully functioning and accused him of being a typical salesman due to him not being able to give me a definite answer as to if and what I was eligible for. I later apologized for this. Rohan showed great empathy, was polite and understanding during this and not once did he raise his voice or be unhelpful (unlike my previous broker).
I have nothing but praise for him and his company. I was kept fully informed throughout – I had policies with two different insurance companies, for trauma, income protection and mortgage protection as well as medical insurance. Everything has been done thoroughly and as quick as processes allow, ensuring that I could survive financially throughout my recovery as well as not having to go through the stress of sorting through all of the paperwork. Rohan has maintained professionalism and kindness through this process and continues to keep contact to ensure everything financially and personally in terms of my recovery, are going okay.
Trauma insurance saved me from having to sell my home as my aneurism is not eligible for ACC funding. I would urge everyone to at least have this cover as you never know what is around the corner – I am testament to this. Luckily I also had income and mortgage protection, ensuring that I can stay at home until I am physically and emotionally ready to go back to work.
